Thematic Network (TN):
Full Employment for Europe

As a part of the 4th Research Framework Programme of the European Community, the Targeted Socio-Economic Research (TSER) Programme supported the creation of Thematic Networks.

One of these was the Thematic Network "Full Employment for Europe". It started its working programme on 1st December 1997 and terminated on the on the 30th November 2000. The TN was coordinated by Prof. Dr. Jörg Huffschmid, University of Bremen, Institute for European Economy and Economic Policy. The TN gathered 15 member institutions from 14 universities and economic research institutes. The participants came from 11 member-states of the EU. The TN was divided into three working groups.

The main objective of the TN was to re-introduce and substantiate the concept of full employment as an economic policy goal and as a guide-line for the working and  reform of national and European institutions in a way which takes full account of the changes which have taken place especially since the 1970s.

The TN organised working meetings to which interested experts were invited and public annual conferences which discussed and synthesised the findings of the working groups.
